Letters contain references to Antarctica and to people concerned in Antarctic exploration, and to a Polar Exhibition, 1930 which Hayes arranged at the Royal Geographical Society. Included are two letters from his wife, Mabel Hayes, 1936. Notes re the letters are made on the envelopes by D. Irving-Bell. Manuscript and typescript.

James Gordon Hayes was a contemporary of the geographer and meteorologist Hugh Robert Mill (1861-1956) From the guide to the James Hayes collection, 1924-1935, (Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge) J. G. Hayes, 1877-1936, was the author of several books on the Arctic and Antarctic. D. Irving-Bell helped him with the research for some of these publications.
